Destin Fishing Report
Spring 2018
Spring is in the air here in Destin Florida and I would like to report that the fishing is great and the fish are biting. March begins our spring charter fishing season and the charter boats start bringing in good catches of Vermillion, White Snapper and Triggerfish. The report is Scamp Grouper and Red Grouper are biting well in the deep water on your longer fishing trips. The inshore bay boats start catching Trout, Redfish and Sheephead good.
Spring Cobia Fishing
The annual Cobia migration begins along the emerald coast and charter boats are rigging up for them, taking outriggers off, filling up spinning reels with new line, collecting live bait. Cobia is a large fish often weighting between forty and sixty pounds. These prize fish are highly sought after not only for great table fare but also for the challenge of sight fishing for them. They put up a great fight, catching them on 20 to 30 pound spinning tackle. Amberjack is another big quality fish Destin has to offer for charter fishing, they often run between thirty five and sixty pounds. Amberjack put up a good pull, challenging fisherman to the battle. Amberjack season opens up May 1 and runs to May 31.
